The Finished Giant and Breakfast

Spread the love

Finally! An hour before work on Friday, I was able to bind off my Giant Clapotis’ last stitch to wear it over the red blouse (I did NOT care the colors clashed) that I chose for Wear Red Day in honor of those who have been affected by heart disease. A side note, my active father had a heart attack on December 1999, and had to change his lifestyle even more so in order to live a longer and healthier life. He gave up red meat and shellfish, and changed his beloved sticky white rice to plain brown rice. If you know Asian folks, that rice bit is REALLY huge.

Anyway, back to the Clapotis… The statistics on the Giant are:
Yarn — Cherry Tree Hill’s DK Silk/Merino in the Cabin Fever colorway
Amount — QTY(3) 4oz hanks, each at 313 yards totaling 939 yards
Needles — US6/4mm straight bamboo (started with Clover’s 13″, switched to Fiddlesticks 9″)
The folded Giant
Increases/Decreases — total of 9 sets of 12 rows
Straight Section — total of (at least) 16 sets of 12 rows
Twisted Stitches — done on both sides due to the yarn’s texture

Today at Fabric Place’s Knitter’s Breakfast, I wore my Clapotis and received a number of compliments on it. I had gone with Cathy, and together we were able to have a nice breakfast, shop a little, and chat with some folks in the store. It was a bit crowded, but more organized than the last breakfast I went to in October. Both Cathy and I did win door prizes in the raffle. Cathy received a bag of Classic Elite’s Bella in colorway 7589 Pretty Pastel. I won two Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton books.

Noro Book One and Noro Book Two

Afterwards, I visited RA Yarns to see if I could find any bargains. Ruth had all the yarn at 60% off and everything else (and I mean EVERYTHING) at 50% off. While I was there, I saw some of the women from Fabric Place and also learned that Ruth’s landlord Tom asked her to stay another week for no charge. And you know what that means to you? One more week to get a bunch of goodies like Addi Turbos (I am thinking of getting the US3, US17, and US19 24″ circulars), Frog Tree Alpaca Sport, Garnstudio’s Angora Tweed, assorted Classic Elite, and so on. If there is something you are interested in, call Ruth directly at the store, or email me.

  1. Your Clapotis turned out great. Lets see a big photo of it! Wow, I’ve never won any knitting related thing. The cover of those two books looks really interesting. Why is Ruth getting a free week from her landlord? I’m confused.

  2. Your Clapotis looks great!

My parents got warnings on their cholesterol so my mom started making a lot more fish dishes and adding brown rice to the white and cutting out ice cream. Man, my dad was so bummed. He loves to come visit us because we’re all white rice and piled high ice cream. 😉

  3. Beautiful Clapotis. Did you have as much fun droppping stitches as everyone else did? And did you block yours?

What books are on sale at the yarn store?
